  • Receba bem as pessoas novas.
A tolerância termina onde começa a intolerância.

  • Higiene pessoal: banho tomado, roupa limpa, desodorante, hálito fresco.

  2. Juntos entendemos do que você precisa.

  • Körperhygiene: frisch geduscht, saubere Kleidung, Deo, frischer Atem.

So erreichst du uns

  2. Wir klären gemeinsam, was du brauchst.

  • jemandem ohne Wissen Substanzen ins Getränk geben (K.-o.-Tropfen)

Code of Conduct – Our guidelines for caring and respectful dancing

We want to create a place where everyone feels welcome, safe and respected. Forró is about closeness, joy and respect. Because we dance as a couple in close physical contact, it matters all the more that we respect boundaries and look out for each other.

Forró is an open, democratic community. Everyone is welcome, regardless of gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, age, appearance, body shape, skin colour, origin, language, religion, disability, physical or mental characteristics, or dance level.

We dance a Brazilian dance and treat its cultural roots with respect. Munich brings together people from many countries, and our guidelines bring both together.

We say “safer” rather than “safe”, because nobody can promise one hundred percent safety. Care is a shared, ongoing process, and as an association we keep learning.

Who and where does this apply to? It applies at all events of Munique Dança e.V.: classes, bailes, festivals and pre-parties. It also applies in our online spaces (WhatsApp groups, social media). It applies to everyone: participants, members, teachers, artists, DJs, team and service providers.

1. “No” is always an option

  • You can turn down an invitation to dance without giving a reason.
  • You can end a dance at any time, even in the middle of a song.
  • Everyone decides on their own boundaries. A “no” is respected, without discussion and without justification.
  • Ask before you invite someone to dance, and wait for a clear yes. Only yes means yes.
  • Ask the person directly, not their companion, whether they want to dance.
  • Consent applies only to the current dance and can be withdrawn at any time. Someone who danced close yesterday may not want to today.
  • Several dances in a row only if you both want to. Ask briefly after each dance.
  • A no does not have to be a personal rejection. There are many reasons to say no. Say thank you and ask someone else.
  • Consent to a dance is not consent to anything else.
  • There is no consent if it is unclear, given under pressure, or if the person is very drunk or intoxicated.
  • Anything that happens against a person’s will after a “no” counts as harassment and will not be tolerated.

2. Treat others with respect

  • Gender does not determine the dance role. Anyone may invite anyone.
  • We do not accept harassment or discrimination. Examples of harassment: repeatedly asking after a no, following someone, staring, comments about someone’s body or appearance, unwanted messages after the event, including online (e.g. in chats or on social media).
  • Use respectful, inclusive language: no demeaning or discriminatory remarks (about gender, origin, body, age …), not even “as a joke”, and no unsolicited pet names like “honey”.
  • Welcome new people. Experienced dancers also dance with beginners, and beginners may invite anyone to dance.
  • Respect different experiences, dance styles, languages and cultural backgrounds.
  • There are power dynamics among dancers too, for example through experience, age or self-confidence. Reflect on your privileges and give others the space they need.
  • Respect other views and do not force yours on anyone. Tolerance ends where intolerance begins.

3. Communication on and off the dance floor

  • Pay attention to verbal and non-verbal signals. If your partner seems unsure, it is better to ask once more.
  • You find closeness and distance together. A close embrace is offered, not forced. Keep your arms and hands relaxed enough that both of you can step back at any time.
  • Body contact only where the dance needs it. No kisses (not even on the cheek, hand or neck) without explicit consent.
  • Acrobatics, lifts and dips only after agreeing on them first.
  • Did you accidentally touch a sensitive area (e.g. the chest) or cross a boundary? Apologise right away and sincerely. Then the other person does not have to wonder whether it was on purpose.
  • If something feels uncomfortable or hurts, you can tell your partner at any time. And if someone tells you this: accept it without justifying yourself.
  • Mention injuries or limitations. Do not force movements, and adapt to your partner’s level.

4. A dance is just a dance

  • Even a close, beautiful dance does not mean romantic or sexual interest.
  • Flirting is allowed, but respectfully. If it is not returned, stop. Persistent unwanted attention is not okay.
  • Do not use the closeness of dancing for advances.
  • No overtly sexual acts on the dance floor.

5. Take care of yourself and others

  • If you have a cold or an infectious illness, stay at home. There will be many more chances to dance.
  • Personal hygiene: freshly showered, clean clothes, deodorant, fresh breath.
  • Bring a change of clothes and a towel and freshen up in between. If you are sweating a lot and are wet, tell your partner, they may find it uncomfortable.
  • Go easy on perfume, some people are allergic.
  • Dance sober or drink only in moderation. Too much alcohol or other drugs lower inhibitions and make people careless.
  • Anyone attending a workshop under the influence of alcohol or drugs will be asked to leave. This applies to teachers too.
  • Look out for each other. Do you see a situation that seems like crossing a boundary, or someone who has been alone for a long time or looks clearly uncomfortable? Talk to them. If needed, bring in the awareness team or the people running the event.

6. Consideration on the dance floor

  • Watch the space around you and protect your partner, especially during turns.
  • No big moves or lifts on a crowded dance floor.
  • Bumped into someone? Say “sorry”, check that everyone is okay, keep dancing.
  • The dance floor is for dancing. Conversations and drinks belong at the edge.
  • Wear flat, clean shoes without heels. Heels can cause injuries, and some people dance barefoot.

7. Feedback & classes

  • No unsolicited tips or corrections during social dancing, unless something hurts or is dangerous.
  • In class, the teachers teach. Partners may at most suggest trying something out together.

8. Photos, privacy & venues

  • Only photograph or film others with their consent, and do not publish anything against their will.
  • At some events there is an official photographer or videographer. If you do not want to be photographed, talk to the awareness team.
  • Do not share personal information or messages about others without their consent.
  • Take good care of the rooms and equipment. The house rules of each venue apply. Smoking only outside.
  • These guidelines also apply in our online spaces (WhatsApp groups, social media).

Additionally for teachers, artists, DJs, team & service providers

  • Role models: You live these guidelines, on and off the dance floor.
  • Power dynamics: Teachers, artists, DJs, organisers and helpers have status and influence. Do not use it to get dances, attention or advantages.
  • No flirting in a professional role: During the event, no flirting and no romantic or sexual advances towards participants (except existing relationships).
  • In class: Corrections and feedback are part of it, always respectfully. If you want to show a correction with body contact (e.g. adjusting an arm or leg position with your hand), briefly ask the person first whether that is okay. Give feedback without exposing, body-shaming or ridiculing anyone. Use gender-neutral role terms (lead/follow), support all roles equally, and address roles and consent in class.
  • Same standards for everyone, regardless of status, fame, role or membership. Equal treatment does not mean treating everyone the same: we take different needs and circumstances into account, including those you cannot see.
  • Sharing the guidelines: We present them in classes and send them to all participants before events.
  • If incidents happen, teachers and artists work together with the awareness team and pass on what they observe.
  • DJs and bands shape the atmosphere through music and announcements and can point people to the awareness team from the stage.
  • Service providers (photo/video, catering, massage …) also receive these guidelines. Offers involving body contact only with explicit consent.

At our larger events an awareness team is on site: at least two people, easy to recognise, multilingual (DE/PT/EN). We are not security staff. We are your contacts for wellbeing and respectful interaction.

  • We listen to you and we believe you.
  • The affected person decides: they define whether a boundary was crossed. They do not have to justify themselves.
  • We take sides: we stand by the affected person and do nothing against their will.
  • Confidentiality: we only pass on information with your consent. The team signs a confidentiality agreement.
  • Transparency: we explain what we do as far as we can, but protecting the affected person comes first.
  • We are also there for witnesses, people indirectly affected, artists and team.
  • Not sure whether something was serious enough to mention? Come to us anyway, small things or a bad feeling count too. It is okay, and important, to talk about crossed boundaries in dancing.

How to reach us

  • On site: the awareness team wears wristbands. Glowing red means on shift, yellow means part of the team. You can also ask anyone from the team, at the entrance or at the bar to get us.
  • By email, also before and after events: awareness@mdforro.de
  • Anonymously via our form: on our Awareness page. It is for incidents and general feedback, including praise.

We reply to emails and form submissions within 48 hours if you would like a response.

What happens after you report something:

  1. We talk to you in a quiet place. You share only as much as feels right to you.
  2. Together we find out what you need.
  3. Any next steps happen only with your consent.
  4. If you wish, we let you know what happened next.

We only call the police or an ambulance with your consent, unless there is acute danger. In an emergency: 110 (police) or 112 (ambulance).

Consequences

Inappropriate behaviour can lead to exclusion, whether or not it is listed here. We respond step by step:

  1. Conversation and raising awareness
  2. A clear request or agreement
  3. A no-contact rule
  4. Being asked to leave the current event
  5. Exclusion from future events

On site, the awareness coordination decides on asking someone to leave, together with a board member present or the person responsible for the event. The board decides on exclusion from future events.

The following lead to immediate removal and exclusion from future events:

  • physical violence and sexual assault, e.g. groping the chest, bottom or intimate area, forced kisses
  • repeatedly ignoring a no or an agreed no-contact rule
  • threats, stalking, or pulling someone into another room against their will
  • putting substances into someone’s drink without their knowledge (drink spiking)
  • targeted discriminatory insults or hate speech
  • secretly photographing or filming in intimate situations, or sharing such recordings against the person’s will

Living guidelines

We review these guidelines regularly: once a year and after every larger event. We welcome your feedback.

Thank you for helping to keep our community open, respectful and inclusive.
